The Manuals

Building a Company That Runs Itself

Building a company that runs itself takes time and lots of detailed information. To help entrepreneurs and company leaders build companies that are intrinsically designed to fully leverage their people, I've prepared two detailed manuals:

The Strategic Planning Manual
and
The Self-Managed Company Manual

(Click on link to see Table of Contents)

These manuals provide an in-depth, detailed program for designing, planning and implementing a company that will largely manage itself.

This may sound far fetched, but I speak to hundreds of CEOs every year and they consistently tell me that only about ten percent of the activities that fill their days are activities that they alone are qualified to do or for which it is legally, morally, or ethically necessary for them to do. That means there is a potential nine hundred percent increase in your production capacity as CEO, doing only the things the CEO can do sitting on the table, waiting to be utilized.

The implications for enhancing the company strategically and enhancing your personal and family life are huge. But getting there takes both work and knowledge. Traditional management practice that we have all been taught was designed very intentionally to minimize employee contribution. This is why company leaders so often find themselves trapped in their own companies.

Nature throught the vehicle of science has shown us a better way.

The relatively new scientific discipline of Complexity Theory has shown us that intrinsic to all systems is a natural propensity to self-organize. This applies to chemical systems, biological systems and certainly human systems.

If you've read my book The End of Management (see the home page to order or download for free) then you know the many benefits of building a self-managing company including

If you're the audatious "jump in and make it happen" type of leader, there is enough information in my book to get you started. But, if you're a bit more conservative and having a much more detailed map on how to transform your company seems sensible to you, then the Manuals are for you.

The Manuals will give you a deeper understanding of both the principles and practices of how to:

  1. Live and lead strategically, driven by your intentions, not the intentions of others
  2. Build a company that works for you rather than you working for it.

Imagine what you could do with your life if you had a successfully running company and very few demands on your time. You can do this and the details of how to do this that before now could only be had by hiring me as a consultant for thousands of dollars a day you can have in your hands for a small fraction of the cost.

Let's be clear about one thing. There is no plug-and-play, one-size-fits-all way to do this work. Each company is unique with a unique set of issues and challenges. This is why a clear understanding of the principles is so important. When you understand the principles, you can tailor the practices to your specfic needs. That having been said, the Manuals will cover virtually all the situations that are likely to come up.

The Manuals are currently in development and I expect them to be available no later than the end of the first quarter of '09. If you would like to be notified when they will be available, be sure to register on the home page and we'll send you an email as soon as they are ready.
